THE PHYLACTERY 4 and THE PHYLACTERY OMNIBUS

Created by Levi Combs

Celebrating our fourth year of putting the grind back into the Grindhouse, Planet X Games is bringing you The Phylactery Omnibus - a thick, overstuffed 6" x 9" hardbound collection of our first four zines (The Phylactery 1-4). This volume includes an additional 50+ pages of ALL NEW, never before seen content, along with creator interviews, a cover gallery, bonus art and a sketchbook that takes a look at the evolution of the zine since its inception. The content of The Phylactery zines is ALL OSR, ALL THE TIME – completely compatible with clones, retro clones and spawn-vat simulacra from early editions of the world’s most popular fantasy RPG. This big ole' boy is perfect for the "plug-n-play, straight from the page to the table" function that the original issues are known for.

More Art! New Articles! All Kinds of Rad Stuff Coming Your Way in The Phylactery!
over 2 years ago – Mon, May 16, 2022 at 03:06:07 PM

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to drop a quick update on the project and let everyone know where we're at.

  • All of the art has been turned in and accepted for The Phylactery 4 and it is looking great. This is some of the best art in the zines so far.
  • I commissioned 4 new illustrations for some expanded material in The Phylactery Omnibus. I've received 3 out of the 4 and expect the final one in short order.
  • Ken Spencer has turned in an article that focuses on OSR bards that is entirely different than anything I've seen before. It fits in perfectly with the kind of stuff you've been seeing in The Phylactery in previous issues.
  • Tracey Steele (our graphic designer) is hard at work making sure that everything fits together and looks great on paper. Our editing and graphic design often goes hand in hand as she and I work together but we always get good results from this inclusive process. The work is ongoing and I will update everyone as we go.
  • We have printers lined up for both The Phylactery 4 and The Phylactery Omnibus. We have a good relationship with both, so we don't expect any complicating issues.

Other than that, things are moving along smoothly and we are on schedule. As things progress further, I will keep you up to date on the whens, whos, wheres, whats and hows!

Thanks again to everyone who backed this project. We know that this project wouldn't be a reality if it weren't for you and we appreciate each and every one of you guys.

What a Great First Day - You Guys Are Killin' It!
almost 3 years ago – Sun, Apr 10, 2022 at 04:13:17 PM

"Look... over there... a bunch of bad ass backers!"

Holy crap guys!

It was a great first day for the Kickstarter, so let me start off by delivering a heartfelt and sincere thanks form everyone on the team. We are blown away by the support and enthusiasm you guys have for this project. This was a record first day for a Planet X Kickstarter so thank you guys a million times over!

So, what now?

While there are no immediate stretch goals, I can tell you with 100% certainty that I am ordering more art for the Omnibus. A LOT more art. After all, no one ever picked up a RPG product and said "Wait wait wait... this thing just has too much art!". I'll reach out to the guys that I've worked with this last four years and see who is available to do what. Regardless, expect more art!

So, again - we really appreciate your faith in us guys. We're gonna do everything in our power to give you one helluva zine and an even bigger, badder collected omnibus!

Before I head out, I want to point out a few other projects from great creators that are still funding. I have backed every single one of these and respect and admire the work of all these creators. If you have a chance, give them a quick look!

Fantastic Geographic  by the great team (and righteous dudes) over at Silver Bulette - Ian McGarty and Jayson "Rocky" Gardner. These guys always put out solid work and are coming up with great concepts. I like the concept of this zine as well, as its full of resources that you can use directly at the table without a whole lot of having to "workshop" the rules. These guys always kill it, and this should be no exception.

The Valley Out of Time Zine Series for DCC, MCC & S/W by the always awesome Skeeter Green. These weird fantasy zines have all the atmosphere and aesthetic of those old herky jerky dinosaur b-movies with a heavy dose of Harryhausen. The name alone makes me envision Appendix N at its finest and gets me stoked to see what sort of RPG magic Skeeter brings to the table this time. Great price point and material by one of the indie press best.

Not One, but Two Mörk Borg Compatible Adventures! by our man in Amsterdam (well, Connecticut) Thom Wilson! If Thom's previous projects are any indication, this will be yet another awesome addition to his already stellar lineup of modules, zines and products. I actually just played through one of these Mork Borg scenarios with him at TotalCon last weekend and it was AWESOME. Plus, how can you beat that price point?

Thanks again for backing guys - we won't let you down!
